Sometimes, you just have to treat yourself and/or your most loved one. Just because. And, for once, I have absolutely nothing to add to that, apart from the following: Once everyone involved is inside the house, lock the door, pour yourself a glass of whatever you’ve picked to accompany the steaks – a Brunello was our pick for this particular dinner for two – and start with…

In recent years, I’ve made a bit of a habit to snoop around the (sometimes a little odd) national and international “holidays” at the beginning of every month. If you take a closer look at the “Days of…” happening all around the world every day, apart from the really big ones declared by the UN, you may find out about some nation/organisation celebrating something silly on a day you really need something to smile about, sometimes it’s an international celebration of something interesting you’ve known nothing about until you’re made aware of it that way.
The first few weeks after the holidays always have a bit of a stale aftertaste to them in my book. After the warmth and sparkly splendor of the pre-holiday season have taken their leave, leaving our surroundings seemingly bare and cold, I always get this urge to merge this “true” winter with the postcard-perfect winter imagery our Christmas Markets and related City decorations have implanted into our heads in recent weeks.
Happy New Year everyone~! I hope you guys had yourselves a fantastic blast, welcoming 2020 last night – and of course, that you’re not still suffering from the lingering “consequences” a party-related blast has in tow on occasion.
Food Frenzy Holiday… ahem. Christmas ante portas! Before the feasting and button-popping may commence, I thought I’d go easy on you guys in preparation for the Holidays. Something quick and easy-breezy to cook up, light on the heavy and hip-hugging and heavy on the light, lean yet incredibly scrumptious, healthy and nutritious stuff your body might need to get you through the following week unscathed~
Alright guys, as always around this time of the year, it’s time for my Winter Box of Chocolates! This time around I actually had help during the selection (actually, help me out on this one… does “Everything!” qualify as help along the lines of “pick two out of these five”~? Hmmm?).
December is a rather busy month for us – as I suppose it is for most of you guys. With the holidays and their cloud of satellite-events lining up on the horizon, this is the perfect time to dig a bit deeper into my box of quick-and-easy-prep dishes that are even better if left forgotten for a few hours or even over night~
All right folks, get out your welcome mats~! Holiday Season is fast approaching, with all its obligations, family gatherings and social shindigs in tow. What better opportunity than this to dust off some fingerfood related recipes~! Oooooor to unobtrusively hide a large-scale taste-testing of one/more of your dishes-in-development beneath the cover of a fingerfood platter… *cough*
Come November, about 75% of the people I know well enough to mark their birthdays on my calendar are about to celebrate another chapter of their lives during the next handful of weeks. Whenever there’s related festive gatherings of 3 or more people – and the promise of food – involved in the shindig, I’ve noticed a peculiar drop in the upkeep of the Birthday Cake tradition. Not in general, mind you, just the children of winter seem to have lost interest in the concept for no evident reason.
Mmmh after last week’s Tom Kha I found myself on a roll. With exactly the right weather raging on outside to justify a soup/stew/curry kind of cooking rush and exactly the right temperatures battering the windows to add a bunch of chillies to the mix, I decided to tackle the almost impossible task of kinda-sorta reverse-engineering another dish I’ll sorely miss now that our favorite Thai Restaurant has closed up shop.
