Hmmm. Just 2 weeks ago, I was sitting in this exact same spot, also writing up a recipe for you guys… and almost falling flat on my face with a heatstroke from the 40°C+ outside. I focused on the snowstorm scenario I described to you guys during the Energizer Gazpacho post in an attempt to keep a cool head at least and now… our region is sitting below Siberia on the temperature scale at a balmy 23-25°C.

For some reason, I never really connected the Gazpacho- or Cold-Soup-in-general-dot on the culinary map to the “Summer” dot as only point of origin or interest, but to the “travel” dot as well. You guys might have noticed that I do, in fact, post at least one Cold Soup/Gazpacho recipe every Summer. Of course, I mostly make them during this time of the year since they’re basically the most refreshing thing you can have on one of the brutal nights we are experiencing at the moment.
Eeeeek~! According to our weather forecast, Summer is coming… with guns blazing. Of course that little tidbit of info sent me into a pan-swinging frenzy last weekend, to give them one last good twirl before tucking them in for their annual R&R period.
When long evenings and fantastic weather come together and the first tell-tale whisps of smoldering embers are wafting through town while an avalanche of dangerously juicy, golden orbs is burying the displays in evey corner of the farmer’s market, Spring is definitely turning into Summer in our parts.
All right, time to make good on my promise to celebrate this year’s Asparagus Season properly~! Usually, Hubby and I indulge in our region’s asparagus about 1-2 times a week during the season. Of course these weekday dinners are breezy ones, you know, along the lines of a quick salad with strawberry dressing, a flick-of-the-wrist asparagus soup or as vinaigretty side to a lemony chicken breast.
For the last couple of weeks, ever since the chocolatey spring festivities have come and gone to be precise, I’ve been pretty busy off the screen and out of the kitchen. Looking back now, after a long and delicious day in the kitchen – the results of which will be coming your way really soon – I can say being kept from “cooking big” for a few isn’t all that bad after all.
I really hope you guys had a fabulous, delicious, long and relaxing weekend like we did! Whether you actually celebrated the holidays or not, if you found yourself in our part of the world, you would have been able to enjoy Mother Natures’ grand entrance to the party that we can now officially call “Spring”. She really put on her Sunday dress this year and rocked our world for the last couple of days, making everybody sigh contentedly, close their eyes and tilt their faces towards the sun for four days straight~
Walking through the bustling passages winding though the Farmer’s Market on Saturday made several very delicious things blatantly obvious in one fell swoop: It’s Spring! It’s Herb Season! And Blueberry Season is nosing it’s way in along with Asparagus and Strawberry Season!
Sometimes magic just happens. Not the boogidyboogidy-kind of magic, but the real fairy-dance kind that ignites sparks around your head when the perfect time of day, place, lighting, mood, company and all other good things come together by some sort of cosmic miracle and give you a little kiss. This recipe is one of the results of one such perfect moment that occurred at around 8am on Sunday the 23rd of September 2018 on a hiking trail hugging the side of a steep valley on the beautiful island of Madeira.
For some reason, certain clichés and stereotypes are insanely slow to fade away. For one, there’s still a surprisingly (and shamefully) large percentage of neanderthal “gamers” desperately clinging to the illusion that the world of gaming is a chest-thumping, club-swinging men’s world. Another cliché sticking to us gamers like a bad habit is, of course, that we don’t do “healthy”. How can we? We’re sitting in the dark basement with our faces taped to a screen all day~!
