Oh boy, it’s that time of the year again~! Certain markers, especially the smaller ones like the upcoming Valentine’s Day always startle me in a “didn’t we just do this like… yesterday?”-kind of way. The bigger holidays always seem sooo~ far away but, at least to me, the small ones really make the passing of time blatantly obvious. So, Valentine’s Day in just a bit over a week – as always a reason for Hubby and me not to do what extensive pink, flowery and chocolatey media bombardment expects us to do~!
Oh yes! Approaching the most button-popping, feast- and party intensive, energy-draining yet most fun time of Winter! Indeed, it’s time for my annual Winter Box’o’Chocolates bash again as the Holidays are edging closer and closer. As usual, I prep my boxes a bit earlier than they actually need to be ready to make an appearance below splendidly decorated Christmas trees, on office desks, banquet tables or simply on the palms of the night owls amongst my friends and family, so you guys get a – hopefully inspiring – sneak peek as well as the chance to request a recipe in addition to my pick today to appear just in time to prep a batch for your Holiday festivities or personal pleasure~
So, after last week’s mammoth post – here’s to hoping you guys enjoyed it anyways~! – I turned on my heel, so to speak, and crunched my grey cells for a while in order to find the speediest and possibly non-fussiest member of my Chocolates & Fruit Bites recipe collection.
In the aftermath of last weekends heat blast, I’ve noticed some of my circuits and tastebuds having obviously taken a more thorough scramble than I first thought. For example, even though the temperatures have dropped to reasonable levels, at least as far as end-of-April goes with close-to-zero-degrees night breezes, I can’t get myself to close the windows at night. Most of the members of my – admittedly small, but cherished – shoe collection have sort of a… sinister? Confining! look to them after just one weekend of flipflop-freedom for my feet.
Birds singing, beautifully arranged flowerbeds all but exploding with colors, bees buzzing around, nosy bunnies zipping around every patch of green in town whenever they think nobody’s watching, temperatures rising… finally it’s that time of the year again~! I know “Easter” doesn’t necessarily mean “Spring” around the globe, but our corner of the world serves that pretty fairytale-painted cliché perfectly.
Romantics, lovers, chocoholics, rejoice! Valentine’s Day is nigh~! While basically everyone I know is firmly rooted on the rather jaded “It’s just a holiday for the greeting card / flower / chocolate industry” side of the matter, exactly the same people also spend the exact same holiday trying to hide the fact that they’re doing something of the exact same shape, size and color the “hopeless victims of the ad-powered machinery” do for their loved ones.
Oh dear… my time-perception seems to have taken a serious hit this year! It seems like I’ve just finished my Summer Chocolate Box and all of a sudden I’m covered in chocolate yet again! The Christmas markets around town have opened their gates last weekend and the wonderful aromas of roasting nuts, spiced wine and freshly baked goods wafting through the festively decorated streets are making me wonder where the last couple of months have gone.
All right! As the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are going down, I decided this would be a good time to share this year’s summer-chocolate-box crown-grabber with you guys to bring back some rolled-up sunshine to the approaching winter months whenever you might need a lift! I have to say, I was somewhat surprised at the major ruckus these simple bites caused amongst my test-sub… ahem. Customers.
You know that kind of overdimensional lightbulb, that pops above your head without introductions, zapping a long forgotten memory back to life in your headspace? Well, I’ve recently had one of those lightbulb-moments, a particularly irritating one, that is. You see, I’ve been making these little sweets for many years now, tucking a load of them into almost every batch of my summer chocolate boxes and, as the years went by, I had forgotten all about the reason why I had experimented them up in the first place…
