GW2 Infused Vinegars

infused-balsamic-vinegar-1After my discovery of the one and lonely bottle of Vegetable Oil in my ingredients tab that led to last week’s Infused Oils, I couldn’t help but look further down the list to find… exactly one type of vinegar. Rice Vinegar, what a shame! A huge world of aromas limited to one kind… one with not much of a bouquet at that. I don’t think I could live with that on this side of the screen – while I only use about 3 different oils on a somewhat regular basis, my vinegar collection is a rather large one. I like that special zing here and there, what can I say~

Madeiran Black Forest Duck & Sour Cherry Chutney

Chestnut-Stuffed-Duck-Breast-7You guys didn’t really think I’d go to a fantastic place like Madeira and come home empty-handed when it comes to food-related things! I know, it took a few weeks, but you can’t rush a delicious meal, or the recipes for it, right? Anyways, during the first couple of days on that wonderful island, I really thought I’d return without showstoppers in my recipe notebook – not because the food was bad, mind you, almost everything we had was absolutely delicious – but because the traditional Madeiran cuisine we indulged in is a very no-nonsense one.

GW2 Infused Oils

infused-oilsMy favorite time of the winter months has arrived! On and off the screen, the weeks before Christmas are something I really look forward to. On screen, my favorite Tyrian festival of the year is due to arrive soon – that impulse to stare up into the skies and search for the Infinitarium… Wintersday really makes me feel like a little kid sometimes! – off the screen I’m having a blast filling gift boxes for everyone I know with homemade yummies straight from my kitchen. Lots of chocolates, of course, but other things like chutneys, spice blends, preserves and the like as well.

GW2 Pumpkin-Orange Soup & Pumpkin Pesto

Pumpkin-Orange-Soup-and-Pumpkin-Pesto-4Another year, another visit by the Mad King and his sugary minions, his bad jokes and endless heaps of pumpkins. As usual, whenever it’s festival time in Tyria, hubby and I spent several long weekends in front of our screens, enjoying the Tyrian way of party’ing. Now, if you’ve had a peek at this week’s Midweek Special, you might have noticed me saying something along the lines of “Ew, pumpkins.” Well, after hours and hours of hacking, carving and slaying though what seemed like Tyria’s entire pumpkin population to honor Mad King Thorn, I couldn’t help but wonder where all those nicely carved pumpkins would go after the festival.

Scallops, Spiced Quince Preserves, Curried Pumpkin Purée & Crispy Pumpernickel Bites

Scallops-Curry-Pumpkin-Puree-Spiced-Quinces-and-Pumpernickel-4I think I’ve mentioned this before, but coming up with the kind of intricate dessert – the ones that make you gawk at them in awe, quivering spoon in hand, at a ponzy restaurant – is, thanks to my not-that-sweet tooth, quite the challenge – which I happily accept every time, what with me trying my best to grow in the kitchen and all that jazz.

GW2 Jalapeno Hummus & Tomato Flatbreads

Jalapeno-Hummus-and-Tomato-Flatbreads-5As autumn is making itsself at home around these parts, the outdoors’y evening activities are getting rarer and, thanks to that, the time spent in front of our screens grows longer. Being parked at the desk for a comfy nighttime gaming-spree calls for a special type of dinner, a non-fussy and non-messy type that doesn’t need much in the cutlery-department and poses a low hazard for keyboards and screens and, most importantly, a type leaving behind leftovers that can double as a snack later that night, should excessive adventures in Tyria speed up time up to midnight-cravings’o’clock in the blink of an eye… as usual~

GW2 Blood Orange-Mojo & Papas Arrugadas

Bloodorange-Mojo-7Dear ArenaNet,

Looking at more than 10 of your recipes involving a combination of 1 head of garlic and 1 leaf of a herb or 1 seed/nut – my personal favorite being the hummus made from 1 head of garlic, 1 chickpea and 1 sesame seed – I get the feeling some of you might either be posessed by or famously obsessed with the humble bulb. Either way, to prevent me from giving myself a whiplash, shaking my head at these bizarre concoctions of yours, I decided to embrace the garlic and dedicate one of my top three crowd-pleasing condiments to you guys. Get ready to have lots of personal space around you in the office for a couple of days.

Xoxo,
Nahdala Darkwind

GW2 Avocado-Apple Salsa & Chilli Cigars

Chilli-Cigars-and-Avocado-Apple-Salsa-1One thing stews from all over the world generally have in common is: they’re even better the next day. A Chilli Con Carne is no exception to that rule. After my inner vamp was satisfied with last weeks Chilli Con Carne however, I couldn’t stand the thought of actually warming it up again, so I tried – and succeded~! – to find a way to make a yummy, summery picknick or late-night snack out of the leftovers with as little stove time as possible.

Thai Style Salad & Chicken Satay Skewers

Thai-Style-Salad-Chicken-Satay-Skewers-3I never know whether to laugh or to cry when I read or hear about some airhead chef trying to sell Thai cuisine as the quickest way to prepare food known to humankind. That’s true… to some extent. After you’ve finished chopping, grinding, cleaning, slicing and all that jazz… yes, after all that, everything’s a quick-fix. Must be nice to have hordes of kitchen underlings to do the prep work for you…

Fire Flank Steaks, Artichokes, Poached Eggs and Chimichurri

Fire-Steak-Chimichurri-Roasted-Artichoke-3Just a couple of months ago, two of our friends moved away. As „away“ as it gets actually – they moved to Argentina. Ever since they raised that topic I’ve been rubbing my hands and practicing my Evil Plan Chuckle™ while waiting for the BBQ season to come closer. One of my absolute favorites, condiment-wise, is the argeninian Chimichurri which goes exceptionally well with anything you could possibly throw onto hot coals. That’s me… a food-geek, if you will, drop the name of a country on me and I start flipping recipe pages in my head.
